What to Expect From Your Sports Physical
Sports physicals are very routine and generally do not take much time. Be sure to bring along any health or immunization documents as well as any notes on conditions you may have.
If you have a heart condition, blood sugar issues, asthma, allergies, history of broken bones or fractures, or any other sports injury, it’s important to bring these up during your visit. We will also ask about your family’s medical history, so it might be helpful to jot down some notes beforehand.
When you arrive, you will check in at the front desk and an assistant will call you back shortly. Your doctor will review any medical history and perform a basic physical exam that will help determine whether you are able to play your sport safely. If required, your doctor may also conduct a urinalysis.
To conclude your visit, your doctor will approve any required medical forms and you will be given a visit summary along with any relevant educational materials. We are happy to send the visit summary to your primary care physician as well. If there are any concerns, your doctor may recommend a follow-up visit.
After we review your medical history, your practitioner will typically:
- Measure Your Weight and Height
- Perform a Blood Pressure Test
- Conduct a Basic Vision Test
- Check Heartrate, Breathing, Abdomen, and Ears
- Review Your Flexibility, Joint Movement, and Posture
- Ask About Diet, Supplements, and Any Drug or Alcohol Use
